POST HOUSE RESTAURANT This large house, built in 1789, is haunted by the presence of a former owner. Today, the building houses a popular restaurant. Manager Cathy Hibbs says employees and guests alike sense the unseen presence, which seems to watch over the place.

SPRINGFIELD Sounds of eighteenth-century music drift from the second-floor west here, and a great crashing noise shakes the house on a Sunday once a year. The second-floor west used to be a ballroom, but no one knows what causes the great crash. The house was built in 1790 by Thomas Marston Green. Andrew Jackson married Rachel Robards in the parlor in the spring of 1791. The event caused a great scandal, because the impulsive Rachel was not yet divorced from her previous husband. The house was abandoned for many years but was restored in the late 1970s by the La Salle family.

(Springfield is a private residence in rural Jefferson County, not far from Natchez.) 93
